The concept in focus:

"Why is it for our managers needed to elaborate their leadership skills in politics-economics at the top?"

This very often asked question to me does in fact have a simple obvious answer:

"It is not needed for every  manager, "just" for those affected by the consequences flowing from economic-political policies or decisions made by politicians wherever they are working on or in charge of."

 

That means, the closer your revenue stream and business model to the public sector, public dominated corporations or the greater the dominance of large scale infrastructure or geo-strategic projects, the more important it becomes for you to identify, qualify and adequately accompany your managers (in charge) in high-level economics-politics - and yes, of course, at the top of the corporation qualification and promotion program. The more corporations transform themselves into transnational or multinational ones, the higher the pressure on and the need of their management members & their teams to learn (more) about economics-politics (in particular the (de) regulation, policy and decision-making process) and how to get a hearing / some influence, not just to be influenced left with not more than the choice of re-action. Adaptive skillsets and mindset have to be developed at a certain stage / phase (not as the first lesson of a management development program) - but from that stage on, these sets have to be permanently practiced and elaborated. There are no shortcuts / quick moves.

To get me right: Such a program does neither mean they are about to forget the responsibility and daily business issues nor to get caught in non-sense political discussions. The opposite is the fact - once they are qualified, able to draw distinctions, self-assured and driven by effectiveness, they will be highly productive and engaged. Corporate transformation - the challenge for managers

When "corporate transformation" is not made by choice -imposing inherent driving force-, it soon becomes inevitably a must -imposing inherent restraining force- and to be sure, both will have a profound impact on your structure, all your employees, your portfolio and your alliances. Acting upon "choice transformation" unearths and accelerates your potential, you will deploy more of your generated energy, money and time towards prosperity, growth, fun and engagement. Acting upon "must transformation" on the other side absorbs much of your energy, money and time for avoiding or correcting, adapting and re-directing your company. Regardless to "choice" or "must" transformation, in both cases you will have to deal with skepticims, barriers and boycott you cannot and should not try to avoid or give in and wait for "better days". The better days are the result of becoming a transforming corporation - to put in other words: a permanently, well-structured and paced transformation established in your corporate structure and culture. In transnational or multilateral business environment your qualified managers in economics-politics are going to be your heavy weight team leaders you will need to have on board in order to thrive.
